Gimme Shelter
2017
This painting has been sold to a private collector 8/1/2020.
Species illustrated: Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus)
Orangutans are critically endangered great apes native to the rainforests of Indonesia and Malaysia. They are adapted to life in the trees, but have no choice but to spend increasing amounts of time on the ground as the result of ongoing deforestation. This painting was inspired by their habit of using leaves to shelter themselves from the rain; I imagined that leaves may be more important in the future as shelter from the sun.
