Thorn Forest
2017
Species illustrated: Prickly Pear (Opuntia ficus-indica)
In researching the Honduran Emerald hummingbird (“Vanishing Jewel”), I became aware of the unique habitat it occupies - dry thorn forest and scrub dominated by tree cacti. The Prickly Pear Cactus is an important food for people of the region and is pollinated by this bird.
